Post traumatic limb deformities can occur if a bone heals wrong after a fracture. This is called a malunion. Malunions may result in crooked bones and/or shortened bones. If the malunion interferes with normal function or if it is likely to cause problems in the future, it may require surgical intervention. Surgical treatments may include rebreaking the bone and aligning it properly, lengthening a bone that healed too short, or performing procedures to guide the growth of the bone so that it straightens out over time.
