Metabolic bone diseases are conditions that affect bone strength.

Osteogenesis Imperfecta

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare disease affecting the connective tissue and is characterized by extremely fragile bones that break or fracture easily (brittle bones).

Rickets

Rickets is a metabolic bone disease that is caused by deficiencies of calcium, phosphorus and/or vitamin D. Without these vitamins, bones become weak and deform. Over time children may develop bowed or crooked legs. Rickets can be caused by nutritional deficiencies, or it can be the result of a genetic mutation (familial hypophosphatemia).
