Congenital Femoral Deficiency

Congenital femoral deficiency (also referred to as proximal focal femoral deficiency, or PFFD) is a congenital limb deficiency where some or all of the femur bone is missing in the upper leg. Associated differences include an incompletely formed hip, incomplete or absent ligaments in the knee, bowing of the femur and a shortened leg. Though abnormalities are always seen in the thigh bone, other bones and joints of the entire lower extremity may be affected as well. Congenital femoral deficiency commonly occurs together with fibular hemimelia.
